Base Brazil Football Schools Living a Dream, violence and crime prevention based on a national passion In 30 cities in 12 states of Brazil the programme offers opportunities and perspectives to the youth of socially depressed areas by teaching them football and futsal to develop their skills as well as their social competence in a safe environment. The project offers these young participants alternatives to becoming affiliated with gangs and therefore being exposed to violence and crime and provides the chance to get off the streets. In this context, sports are used as a vehicle and driving force for the technical and physical development as well as for social and cognitive skills, in order to learn in a playful way on how to "fight" and compete within fair rules in the set-up of a sports team.
