The training is tailored to the specific needs of Global Responsibility’s (humanitarian) member organizations, who travel to countries with heightened security risks as part of their work. Through a combination of lectures, exercises, and a complex outdoor simulation exercise, participants will gain awareness of the multiple threats present in risk areas, while also training their skills to respond effectively to threatening situations.

As part of the learning objectives, participants will:

  • Become familiar with potential security threats when travelling to risk areas.
  • Obtain essential knowledge and train their skills on how to minimize security risks and increase their personal safety and security.
  • Practice appropriate ways of behaviour during (potentially) life-threatening situations, such as armed ambushes, active shooting and kidnapping.
  • Understand basic security procedures and behavioural requirements when encountering armed checkpoints and minefields.
  • Get introduced to basic radio communication and negotiation practices.
  • Get familiar with basic strategies to manage stress.

Disclaimer: Regular Hostile Environment Awareness Trainings (HEAT) typically have an average duration of 5 days. The two-days mini-HEAT will be delivered in a compact manner and provide an introduction to the most relevant subject matters.
