Humanitarian Quickie (EN)
24.10.2024 | 14:00 – 15:00 UTC+2 (Austrian time) | onlineOne Health is a transdisciplinary approach to achieving sustainable and holistic health and well-being for people, animals and their shared environment.
The One Health approach addresses issues such as zoonoses – infectious diseases that can be transmitted between animals and humans – as well as challenges in food safety, water and sanitation, and antimicrobial resistance. It is a collaborative, multi-sectoral and transdisciplinary approach that addresses local, regional, national and global levels.
For example, Veterinarians Without Borders e.V. supports a One Health project in Northern Kenya, where local partner organizations are working to improve veterinary services and the regular treatment of livestock, which is crucial for the health of the people around them. At the same time, they provide medical care for pastoralists and help mitigate the effects of drought through more reliable weather forecasting.(cf. How we help – Vétérinaires Sans Frontières (vsfg.org))
Mascha Kaddori is a dedicated veterinarian and intensive care nurse with experience in both healthcare fields – human medicine and veterinary medicine. She worked with GIZ (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) in the global project International Alliance against Health Risks in Wildlife Trade and is currently the Policy Advisor for One Health and Scientific Affairs at Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Germany/Veterinarians Without Borders e.V. in Berlin.
In addition to her professional career, Mascha Kaddori is active in numerous voluntary projects, i.a. she is running the DareToCare Animal Welfare Podcast. She is passionate about linking human, animal and environmental health and welfare and is constantly encouraging herself and others to think outside the box.
A Humanitarian Quickie is a basic 60 minutes online session comprising an experts input, Questions and Answers, peer-exchange and debate. The individual sessions are intended to give interested staff in the member organizations of GLOBAL RESPONSIBILITY – Austrian Platform for development and humanitarian aid and their partner organizations a rough overview of the respective topic. They can be attended independently of each other.
